OH THAT --

OF ALL THE --

I can't believe it. Can'tbelieveitcan'tbelieveitcan'tbelieveit. I can't grasp what happened to me --

And it's something that just happened. Makes one wonder, if it'll ever truly sink in. I think I'll cry then. As if I haven't cried enough.

To be the wife of... of that man. He who killed them. He who condoned mother's rape.

I'm not amused, no, not amused, ahahaha, but LIKE THE CITY CARES. Or the deities. Or fate. Or whatever. Like I fucking care - no wait, I do. I'd really like a scapegoat right now. It's tempting, to blame him, jerk that he is, but I know he had as little to do with it as I did.

A shame, really.

T-to k-k -- and to hold -- bah. Even the words are disgusting to think.

But the sheer, sweet irony! Of something that has not been, never was, never ever will be. If that is the solution to peace - hah. I can't bring myself to actually wish for it, isn't that the most pathetic thing?

I feel I should, somehow, and yet... no. Nonononono.

Manji.

[/thoughts]

Funny, isn't it? How it isn't until something affects you deeply and personally that you truly realize its horror. Thank you kindly, City. That was a lesson for life. If I underestimated you before - well. I'm not going to do that any longer.

Moving on. Does the police keep an eye on types like this? It would be a relief to know.

Thank you, Rosella, for calling the communicator's writing function to my attention. As can be seen, I have practiced diligently. It recognizes most of what I'm writing on the first attempt. I think I'll use that from now on - everyone must be so sick of hearing my voice by now.

Youko, or Ryōga-kun, how about some training? I could use that.

(OOC: Following this and that. Flatmates may have noticed her coming home around midnight in a very gloomy mood. Spent some time locked in the bathroom, swearing, crying and retching. Link is IC. And yep, this entry is written. The time of eternal voice posting is over.)

I'm hardly sick of hearing your voice, Asano, but I'm glad you're having luck with the writing!

[identity profile] revengeisalie.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

You can call me Rin, by the way.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Er...well, all right, Rin, then.

Er. If you don't mind my asking, is there some reason why you'd prefer to be called by your surname, instead of "Asano"?

[identity profile] revengeisalie.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh? Asano is my family name. Rin is my given name.

Ah, right, it's different in other places. Sorry, I'm used to giving my family name first.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
But you introduced yourself as--oh, oh, I see now! Yes, I've met someone else who introduced herself backwards, as well. I'm terribly sorry, I hadn't realized. Goodness, I feel very silly now.

Rin, then. I'll remember that for the future.

[identity profile] revengeisalie.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It's alright - if anyone's silly, it's me for not realizing customs might be different for other people.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It does seem like a rather unusual way of doing things. Is there some special reason for it? It sounds like families must be very important in your homeland, if it would be custom to introduce yourself with your family's name first.

[identity profile] revengeisalie.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never really thought about it, but that must be it. Family and family honor play a big role in my homecountry.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I see. Where I'm from, people often just introduce themselves as "Sir Bruce of Daventry" or perhaps "John the miller" or something like that.

[identity profile] revengeisalie.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
So places and professions are more important than family? That sounds a little strange to me.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, no, I wouldn't say that. It just makes it easier to keep everyone straight, I think. For example, when nobility visits, it's just their title, their name, and the land they're visiting from. That way if you get a--oh, I don't know, a Rowena from Tamir and a Rowena from Kolyma, for example--and both were princesses, you'd be able to tell which is which by what land they're from.

On the other hand, if you were to say "run down and fetch Will the blacksmith, the horse has thrown a shoe", there might be several Wills about, but the one you need is the blacksmith, so that would be the Will you'd want to fetch. ...I hope that makes sense? I'm not sure if I've explained it properly.

[identity profile] revengeisalie.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I do understand... but if what if there's two blacksmiths named Will? Or are towns not usually big enough for this to occur?

For example, there might well be other samurai's daughters named Rin in Edo, but I am Asano Rin, the daughter of Asano Takayoshi.

... not that I'd completely rule out the possibility of there being another Asano Rin.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-06 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if there are, they usually tend to be related. So perhaps they'd be Old Will and Young Will? Or Will and Will Junior. I'm sure we'd figure something out, anyway, but it doesn't tend to happen too often.

Yes, I see how it could be important to keep track of people by their parents. Particularly if their parents were rather well-known. May I ask what a samurai is? It sounds like an important job.

[identity profile] revengeisalie.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
Two members of the same house have exactly the same given name?

Samurai are the highest social class. They're warriors, but they're bureaucrats too.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it mostly happens with fathers and sons, I think. Will the father and Will the son, and a lot of times Will the son will end up inheriting his father's business when he comes of age, which can make things a bit confusing as to which Will is which!

Oh! Hm, so they're rather like knights and rather like kings. But either way, that makes you royalty, doesn't it?

[identity profile] revengeisalie.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see that! In my country, it is custom for the son to have a name that has part of his father's name. My grandfather was named Takayuki and my father Takayoshi.

Nobility - not exactly royalty.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that would certainly make things easy, wouldn't it? But let me see, that would mean my brother would be...Grahalexander, I suppose? I'm afraid his name and my father's don't seem to mesh very well!

Hm. More knight than king, then. I see. Do your nobility have special titles where you come from? Back home, we would have earls and dukes and barons and things like that.

[identity profile] revengeisalie.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, of course your brother's name would have been chosen accordingly.

I think we do? Ones that denote their professions and positions in the governmental structure, at least. Like daimyō and hatamoto.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, of course, I'm sorry, I was only teasing.

But both of those are below samurai, correct?

[identity profile] revengeisalie.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh? I'm sorry, it didn't quite register.

No, they are samurai, and above ordinary samurai. Both are direct servants of the Bakufu - the government, that is.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry, too. I didn't mean to make light of your customs, so I do apologize if it seemed that way.

Oh. All right, then a samurai is a noble, but a samurai can also mean a minor noble, and then the more important nobles are the other two. And all of them serve the government, which is the Bakufu. I think I have it now...

[identity profile] revengeisalie.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It's quite alright. I'm not so attached to them that I couldn't stand a little joke.

Basically, yes. You mentioned knights and kings... ?

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think that my knights are a bit like your samurai. They're warriors in the service of the king, who is responsible for running the government.

[identity profile] primrosella.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose some things are the same all over.
